Who this policy covers

This policy applies to confortilegal.ca and to personal information Conforti Legal collects through it. Conforti Legal is a paralegal practice serving Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, licensed by the Law Society of Ontario.

We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the professional obligations that apply to licensees of the Law Society of Ontario.

What we collect

We only collect what you choose to give us. When you submit the consultation form, we collect:

• Your full name
• Your email address
• Your phone number
• The type of matter you selected
• Your city or area
• The description of your situation that you write in the message field

If you email us directly, we receive whatever you include in that message.

Our server also briefly sees your IP address when you submit the form. It is used only to limit how many submissions can come from one source in a short period, which protects the form from spam and abuse. It is held in memory for that check and is not written to a database or used to identify you.

This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising trackers or tracking pixels. Fonts are served from our own domain, so loading a page does not report your visit to any third party.

Why we collect it

We use the information you send us to:

• Respond to your consultation request and answer your questions
• Assess whether we can act for you and, if so, provide legal services
• Communicate with you about your matter
• Meet our professional, regulatory and legal obligations
• Protect the website against spam and abuse

We do not use your information for marketing, and we do not sell, rent or trade it to anyone.

Your consent

By submitting the consultation form or emailing us, you consent to our collecting and using your information for the purposes above. You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us, subject to any legal or professional record-keeping obligations we may already have.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that make this website work, and only to the extent they need it:

• Vercel, for website hosting and delivery. Standard server logs may include your IP address, browser and the pages requested.
• Resend, for email delivery. Consultation requests are sent to our inbox through this service, so the contents of your submission pass through it.

Both providers store and process data on servers located outside Canada, primarily in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.

We may also disclose information where we are required or permitted to do so by law, by a court, or by the Law Society of Ontario.

How long we keep it

If we do not end up acting for you, we keep your inquiry only as long as we reasonably need it to follow up, and we will delete it sooner on request.

If you become a client, your file is retained for the period required by the Law Society of Ontario's record-keeping rules and by applicable law.

Confidentiality of your inquiry

We treat inquiries as confidential. Please note, though, that sending the form or an email does not create a paralegal-client relationship. That begins only when we confirm in writing that we are acting for you.

Because email is not a secure channel, please keep your first message general. Do not send highly sensitive documents, and do not rely on the form for anything urgent or subject to a near-term deadline until we have confirmed we received it.

How we protect it

The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), the form is validated and rate-limited, and access to submissions is limited to Conforti Legal. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you may:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it
• Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
• Withdraw your consent to our use of it, subject to legal and professional limits
• Ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep

Email us to make a request and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

This website may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them. Review their policies before providing personal information.

Children

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. The revised version takes effect when it is posted here, and the date at the top of this page will be updated to match.
